The SharkCopier LS standalone manual tower DVD/CD publishing systems from Vinpower Digital is a collaborative effort with LightScribe that offers, among others, the capability to inscribe text or full graphic labels directly onto CDs and DVDs without being connected to a computer. It can be used as a publishing system by first creating the disc image art on a computer, then loading the image onto the standalone duplicator for disc label duplication.
The duplicator only needs a suitable electrical output. To use it, the following steps need to be followed: a) load the LightScribe capable CDs or DVDs into the drives, with the label side face down b) the duplicator inscribes the programmed image onto the discs c) flip the disc over in the same drive to the duplicating side d) the duplicator copies the selected data.
One of the advantages of using the SharkCopier LS is that it eliminates the risk of running out of ink or thermal ribbon which is common in printer-based publishing systems. This reduces time spent and the related costs.
Besides data and label duplication features, the SharkCopier models offer dynamic hard drive partitions and the new Simultaneous Load & Copy feature, great duplication at extremely high speed, and additional capabilities such as Account Management, Auto Counter and Multi-language support.

Digital office equipment maker Ricoh has launched the Aficio SP 1000SF monochrome MFP, an entry-level product targeted at small office or workgroup. The MFP offers monochrome print, copy and fax capabilities along with full-color scan capabilities.
Key features of the device include dual access which allows for simultaneous multiple actions such as sending or receiving faxes while printing. As a result, there is a significant productivity boost. The MFP enables quick and easy scanning with its built-in document archive using the PaperPort 9.0SE software. An icon-based application allows users to organize, manage and share digital documents, while a built-in USB interface allows users to print directly from a USB memory stick. Moreover, with a 250-sheet paper tray, users donât have to replenish the paper frequently.
This entry level MFP is now in the market priced at about $315.

Toshiba Tec UK Imaging Systems has introduced two new multifunctional products (MFPs) -- e-STUDIO180s and the Toshiba the e-STUDIO200s- targeted at the small office and home office users (SOHO). The two products can print, scan, photocopy and fax. The two MFPs are ideal for low volume users.
With its all in one multifunctional desktop assistant, the e-STUDIO180s acts a highly efficient photocopier, printer and color scanner while also providing good quality black & white printing at speeds up to 18 pages per minute (ppm).
Meanwhile, the e-STUDIO 200s offers additional faxing capabilities, thus helping save valuable desk space and reducing cable clutter.
Both MFPs are compact, simple to install and use. Users can now copy, scan and print clear documents and photos with a device that would typically be available in an enterprise environment.
The e-STUDIO180s costs £660, toner â (T-1820) is available at £65, while the e-STUDIO200s is priced at £999, toner â (T-2025) is available at £65.

In the past few years, the ubiquitous photocopier has undergone a huge transformationâfrom the bulky and not-so-atractive equipment churning out black-and-white copies to a sleek, multi-function product that can photocopy, print, scan and even fax. If we thought that was the limit of what a photocopier could do, we couldnât be farther from the truth. A copier can translate a document as well!.
Fuji Xerox has introduced a prototype photocopier that can translate a document instantly. Scan a printed document in Japanese, press a button and the photocopier will churn out translated version of the document in Chinese, Korean or English. Whatâs more, the translated text will appear in exactly the same layout. Translations can be done in from these languages into Japanese as well.
The photocopier, networked to a central translation brain, uses complex algorithms to distinguish between text and images [drawings and lines]. While the translation feature is a huge boost, particularly for offices that involve people from many different countries using different languages, the quality of the translations is still to be tested. Whether this machine translation by a photocopier will be good enough to completely replace a professional human translator remains to be seen, but our guess is that it will not be any time in the near future.
Another issue with the new Fuji Xerox prototype seems to be that it can be used for translation of documents from Asian languages into English or vice versa only. However, if this concept of a translator-in-a-photocopier were to take off, it will not be long before we find translation capability in other languages.
