According to a story published in ComputerWeekly, based on a study by Gartner, the combined market for printer, copier and MFPs in EMEA grew by 5.8% in the first half of this year compared to shipments during the same period last year. The reports quotes shipments during the first half of this year were about 23.7 million units.
The ComputerWeekly story reports that the market research firm is predicting the shipments to be close to 54 million for the full year. The growth in the first half of this year continues from the upswing in the second half of last year.
Serial inkjet MFP sales was the primary driver, contributing to almost 41% of the total print market. Together, copiers and MFP sales accounted for more than half of the overall shipments.
While HP retained its position as the leader in terms of market share, one of the highlights during the period was the entry of Kodak into the market with a couple of MFPs.

The new imageCLASS MF4270 laser multifunction printer (MFP) provides big-office networked workflow functionality into a compact desktop device, for under $300. The imageCLASS MF4270 will print duplex output directly from a PC, as well as duplex print incoming faxes and copying letter-sized documents.
With these capabilities, the MFP helps users cut down on paper consumption significantly. Moreover, with its 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), the MFP copies single-sided documents and output double-sided pages, thus improving speed and efficiency of operation.
The monochrome laser MFP can print and copy documents at speeds of up to 21 pages-per-minute (ppm) for letter-sized output; scanning is done in 24-bit color at interpolated resolution of up to 9600dpi. The imageCLASS MF4270 uses a 33.6 Kbps Super G3 faxi for the rapid transmission of facsimile communications.
The Single cartridge system, that combines the toner and drum into one unit, contributes to top-notch image quality retention, besides reducing the requirements for various consumables.
