Sipera VIPER Lab from Sipera Systems that provides VoIP/ Unified Communications (UC) security solutions, has revealed its list of Top 5 VoIP/UC threats with the greatest potential impact in 2008.

These top 5 threats are:

• Denial of service (DoS) and distributed DoS attacks on VoIP networks are likely to become an increasingly important issue with enterprises deploy SIP Trunks and UC for the mobile workspace
• Eavesdropping and other attacks on HTTP or other third party data services running on VoIP end-points.
• The hacking community may target Microsoft OCS, taking advantage of its UC connections to public IMs, email addresses and buddy lists to create botnets and launch attacks. Moreover, enterprise federation for OCS, a major productivity and business process enabler, will be a source of greater VoIP security risk since it exposes once closed networks to the risks found in other federations.
• Hackers are likely to set up more IP PBXs for vishing/phishing.
• Service providers will be subjected to more VoIP attacks with the use of anonymous SIM cards.
Ricoh has introduced the latest version of GlobalScan 3.0, which is its document capture and routing system. Being compatible with several Ricoh MFPs, GlobalScan 3.0 allows organizations to manage high-volume document distribution more effectively and securely.

Local MFPs can be made into a key component of document workflow with GlobalScan 3.0 as users can easily navigate document capture, management, storage, and global distribution. Moreover, there is no need for desktop scanners since it can connect up to 250 MFPs through one server. Historically paper-based documents can now easily be tracked and integrated into digital files, with all the functions of the document capture system easily accessible from the control panel o the MFP.

GlobalScan 3.0 comes with optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities; compression of large documents by up to 100 times is another very attractive feature. Likewise colour scanned documents can be compressed upto 100 times without loss of image quality. These features contribute to heavy cost savings for organizations.

GlobalScan 3.0 is built on the .NET platform for improved reliability and security.

The new HP Scitex TJ8300 printer has helped Gobet Production SA of Switzerland to achieve faster turnarounds and expand its services to include printing of outdoor posters. While the latter is in the business of producing self-adhesive posters and vehicle wraps, the printer’s ability to print at 600dpi (apparent) at 100sqm/hr helped the company to print high quality paper posters and thus tap into new business opportunities.

As a result, the Swiss production house could compete with large offset printing houses for short runs of 200 to 300 outdoor posters.

One of the key features of the HP Scitex TJ8300 printer is its high speed, as it is capable of printing at up to 400sqm per hour. The printer can print both coated and uncoated paper, self-adhesive vinyl, canvas, banner and paper-back flag, by using solvent based HP Scitex TJ100 Supreme inks that are light-fast and UV-durable for up to two years.
