Peter Cohen of Macworld.com reports that Sanyo has introduced two new superbright LCD projectors, expected to ship this month, for the education and business markets. The two new models are the PLC-ET30L and the PLC-XT21L. The models are priced in the GBP2300 - GBP3300 range, excluding the cost of lenses.

The PLC-ET30L is a SXGA projector with a resolution of 1400x1050, brightness of 4200 lumens, contrast ratio of 1300:1 and 4:3 aspect ratio. The lower-priced XGA projector, PLC-XT21L has a resolution of 1024x768, brightness of 4000 lumens, contrast ratio of 1000:1 and an aspect ratio of 4:3.

Suitable for operating in environments with ambient light such as conference rooms, both of these models can be custom-fit with special lenses to meet specific requirements.
Well-known consumer electronics company Pioneer has announced plans to restructure its displays business. One of the key highlights of this strategic shift is to stop in-house production of plasma display panels and instead procure them from other display manufacturers, in an effort to make the business around displays more cost competitive.

While the company will book an impairment loss on plasma display production facilities for the year ended March 31, 2008 and restructure resources for its growth businesses, Pioneer expects to get significant financial benefits as a result of the reorganization of its displays unit only by fiscal 2010.

More details about Pioneer's decision to terminate plasma display production can be found here.
Hospitals in Wales are set to ban vending machines dispensing junk food like chips and chocolate and carbonated drinks in the next six months, according to a news report.  The restrictions will not be applied to vending machines selling healthy food and drinks such as water and fruit juice, says the report.

The new restrictions from the Health Ministry are in line with steps to overcome the obesity problem in Wales. It is reported that almost one-fifth of Wales’ early teenagers are obese as are more than half of adult men and women.

Reportedly, trial projects are underway at leisure centres in Wales to provide healthy food and drink choices from vending machines.
