Is Copier Leasing Right For You?

Photocopier

As companies opt for multi-purpose, sophisticated copiers, the initial capital cost may be high. Consequently, several easy finance and leasing schemes for business photocopier have become available to ease the financial burden.

Like taking a mortgage on a house, there are several advantages of leasing a business copier.

  • Reduce capital deployed : cash can be better used for other operational expenses for the business
  • Option to upgrade: unlike buying outright, lease agreements generally offer the flexibility to upgrade to higher value models
  • No wastage of money: under dire circumstances when payment of the lease becomes a problem, you have the option of letting go of the copier; so in effect you have paid only for the usage.
  • Coverage for service & maintenance: most copier lease arrangements are inclusive of periodic maintenance and repair, including cost of parts and labor. However, there is often considerable ambiguity in the use of the term “parts”; it helps to ensure absolute clarity during the lease agreement stage itself to avoid hassles in future. It is also pertinent to remember that certain replacement parts included in the lease may be available cheaper and rather not be included in the lease agreement.

Of course, leasing a copier has its own pitfalls due to the different lease rental models that are adopted. For example, many copier leases are computed on a per-copy basis and therefore you will need to ensure that the estimates given during the making of the lease agreement is fairly accurate. Otherwise, leasing could become an exorbitantly expensive proposition.
